Notes
The first hand narrative is followed by a collection of over one hundred letters to and from the Scottish soldier, Sir John Moore (1761-1809). They were written 1808-09, during his three months in Spain and Portugal, before he fell in battle as the French attacked his withdrawing army prior to its embarkation from the port of La Coruña. The author, James Carrick Moore (1763-1834), surgeon and army physician, was the General's brother.
