Perhaps the first London by pass road and now the Euston Road, it's construction was authorised in 1755. It linked the Edgware Road at Paddington to Islington, crossing several major roads to the north, providing a route for sheep and cattle being driven to Smithfield Market and a quick road for soldiers heading for the Essex coast. The new road attracted much attention at the time and was the subject of articles in both the Gentleman's Magazine and the London Magazine.
