Notes

Translated from German by John William Gabriel. 1970 can be said to be the first year in which 'Warhol studies' began, with the publication of two monographs, the other being John Coplan's smaller catalogue of the same name. Written 17 years before Warhol's death, Crone's work was the first attempt to place Warhol in an art historical context and evaluate his impact on contemporary art, and continues to be cited in modern writing. The volume includes biography, catalogue raisonnée, filmography, exhibition list and bibliography. A fair copy of a scarce book more usually found ex-libris.
