Folio. 15.5 x 11 inches. Unpaginated. 37 leaves, one blank. Within 1946 catalogue, 24 pp. + [1] pp index. Bound in maroon cloth. 1946 catalogue fixed in and window mounted, 1949 extracts tipped in. Extremities worn and slight foxing at edge of rear flyleaf, otherwise a very good copy, with a few pencil notes. 2 plates from 5 extra illustrated 1949 catalogue sections. Portrait frontispiece and 24 plates within 1946 catalogue. The compiler has detached the pages of the 1946 Sotheby's catalogue and window mounted them with the addition of a few sections cut from a 1949 manuscript sale catalogue. Sir Thomas Phillips (1792-1872), antiquary and book collector amassed a collection of 40,000 printed books and 60,000 manuscripts. It took over a century to disperse the items in numerous sales until 2006. Baron Horace de Landau (1824-1903) was a French banker for the Rothchilds, and a collector, of Ukrainian origin.
