FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 7.5 x 5.25 inches. 193 pp. Bound in original red cloth, with black titles and block on front board, in unclipped pictorial dust wrapper which has edge wear and tears, including chips at head and tail of spine which is sunned. Extremities a little worn, but otherwise a very good copy. 1951 gift inscription on front pastedown. Illustrated by 8 yellow monochrome plates, including frontispiece. An account of the schooldays of Bigglesworth known as Biggles, the famous fictional pilot and flying ace character created by the former World War One pilot, Captain W. E. Johns (1893-1968). These adventures are the second book in the chronological sequence of the life of Biggles, but the thirty ninth in order of publication. Illustrated by the artist, Leslie Stead (1899-1966).
