A repaired closed tear slightly affects the very corner of the drawing, otherwise it has a few very small edge tears and corner creasing, and is a trifle time-stained.

Item Description
Ink drawing, 9.5 x 7 inches, on heavy white paper. Signed Marian Huffam. Competently executed, the characters and the young lady's fashionable garb are well-observed.
Notes
Entitled 'By the fast train' the drawing is very reminiscent of the early Punch cartoons and depicts a very smartly-dressed and imperious-looking young lady who has just alighted from a train. A porter has approached and is touching his cap, awaiting instructions. Looking on is a natty young gent with whiskers and a cane, and another lady is passing in the background. Items of luggage lie on the platform and the head of a dog creeps into view at one side. At the foot of the drawing the exchange between her and the porter is inscribed in ink as follows: Railway Porter: 'Any luggage, Miss?' Young Lady (who is also a leetle fast). 'Yes! Portmanteau, a little Bay Horse, and a black retriever! - And look here, get me a Hansom!'
