8vo. 8.5 x 5.25 inches. viii + 55 pp. Rebound in quarter calf, gilt over marbled boards with new endpapers. A little foxing of half title and neatly repaired tear at foot of last page, with small section of lower margin missing, not affecting text; otherwise a very good copy. Henrique Xavier Baeta (1776-1854) was a Portuguese doctor, educated at the University of Edinburgh. This study examines, with some case notes, contemporary theory and practice in fever medicine, notably that of Erasmus Darwin (1731-1802), physician and Midlands Enlightenment thinker. He translated Darwin's Materia Medica, apparently from Volume II (1796) of the Zoonomia, into Portuguese. A scarce title, handsomely rebound. (ESTC N16096).
