Notes

Inaugural medical dissertation on surgery submitted by Christian Friederich Eckstein, under the supervision of Georg Ernst Stahl (1659-1734), Professor of Medicine at the University of Halle. This had been recently founded as a Prussian Univeristy in 1694 after the Duchy of Magdeburg, which included Halle, had been annexed to Brandenburg-Prussia in 1680. The monarch referred to on the title page is Frederick William I who had succeeded his father as Margrave, or Elector, of Brandenburg and King in Prussia, in 1713, the year of the dissertation.
