Notes
First edition of this volume published 1922. Part of a nine volume set, published 1922-37, each being complete in itself. Henry Avray Tipping (1855-1933) was appointed architectural editor of Country Life in 1907, ten years after the magazine commenced publication: 'In the course of twenty-five years he must have visited nearly every old house of historical or architectural interest in the country, and his English Homes will stand as a lasting memorial to his unrivalled antiquarian knowledge and enthusiasm for our domestic architecture' (preface to last volume). He also worked as a garden designer in the Arts and Crafts style and published English Gardens (1925) and Old English Furniture (1928). Fine copy of this extensively illustrated work.
