Illustrated by 12 colour plates and by black and white text figures. Decorated by publisher's device on title page. A volume in Collins's Britain in Pictures series published during the war between 1941 and 1945. An historical account of various types of English music, by Walter James Turner (1889-1946), Australian born poet and biographer of musicians, who also served as general editor of the Britain in Pictures series.
