Notes
A staff working manual for the financial administration of royal dockyards covering Deptford, Chatham, Sheerness, Portsmouth, Devonport and Plymouth. It is particularly concerned with the employment of officers, clerks and workmen including their appointment. attendance, working hours, holidays and leave, sickness and injuries, salaries, wages and allowances, receipts and accounts, pensions and gratuities. Two appendices provide long lists of returns and vouchers to be received by cashier and another of books and records to be kept by him. It incorporates the numerous printed amendments issued up to 1888. According to the preface, corrected copies with any suggestions for improvement were to be returned to the Admiralty via the dockyard superintendent every year. This copy was used in Sheerness Dockyard; a scarce item.
