Robert morden (1650 - 1703), cartographer and instrument maker, was engaged by london publishers to prepare a set of county maps for a new edition of william camden's "britannia". issued in 1695 his maps were clear and attractive to the eye. his map of kent is probably the best of the atlas and is the first map of the county to show the road system in any detail.
