Notes

This volume, the sixth in the Kent History Project, complements those already published on the economy of Kent and religion and society in Kent. Comprising ten chapters, each chapter begins by evoking a picture of Kent on the eve of the First World War and looks at changes that have taken place between then and the present, with particular attention to the impact of the two World Wars on the county. The subjects covered are population, the economy, agriculture and rural society, transport, politics, housing, health and social welfare, popular education, religion and culture and leisure. The three appendices include an account of the General Strike in Kent, 1926.
