Notes
Original issue of this newspaper containing a fascinating variety of notices and advertisements on the front page; the inside and back pages are a mixture of national and Kentish news and a Corn Exchange section which supplies corn and other commodity prices. Statistics are supplied for food and drink consumption in Paris for 1818. The last week's weather had been 'unusually severe,' and heavy snow impeded or prevented the passage of coaches between Salisbury and Bridport and Poole to Southampton. The frost was intense and Thames navigation was impeded by ice. At Bow Street a man charged with the theft of bank notes, coins and plate to the value of £1000 from the Counting house of Skinner's Hall was found to be a former footman of the family. In Kent about six bushels of barley stolen from a barn in Buckland parish. In Hythe it was observed that of a total of 336 freemen with voting rights, only fifty were actually resident there.
