8vo. 7.25 x 4.5 inches. [ii] + 286 pp. Text in French. Bound in decorated stiff boards with ornamental borders enclosing patterns, with gilt spine titles. Extremities worn, including spine and titles. Occasional scattered foxing, but otherwise a very good copy. Facsimile signature of publisher on verso of series title. School prize label, 1847, on front pastedown. Illustrated by three engraved plates, including frontispiece, protected by tissue guards, and by engraved vignette title. Decorated by publisher's device on title page. A moral tale opening in Saint-Omer before 1789, a volume in the Christian Youth Library series of the prominent Tours publishing house of Armand Mame et Cie. Dating back to the last quarter of the eighteenth century. It specialised in religious and family titles. Mame concentrated all the activities of book production - printing, binding publishing and sales - in one business. An earlier edition appeared in 1844.
