8vo. 8 x 6.2 inches. xi+ [i] + 269 +[1] pp. + [6] pp. publisher's advertisements. Bound in blue cloth, with gilt and black titles and pictorial block on front board. Patterned endpapers. A little wear to extremities. including corners and head and tail of spine, which is sunned, and occasional scattered foxing; otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 14 whole page plates, including frontispiece, protected by tissue guard paginated in text, and by text figures. Decorated by title page vignette and by initials. Frederick Warne reprint of their first UK edition of Little Lord Fauntleroy, the best selling US novel (first in book form also 1886). A young boy in the US discovers that he is the heir to an English earldom and moves to England, where he has a civilising influence on his aristocratic grandfather. Frances Hodgson Burnett (1849-1924) was a Manchester born US novelist and playwright, well known for this title and The Secret Garden (1911). Illustrated by Reginald Bathurst Birch (1856-1943), US artist.
