4to. 11.25 x 8.5 inches. xx + 167 pp. + Bound in original black cloth, gilt, in price clipped pictorial dust wrapper, which has minor edge wear and one small tear; otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 128 plates, 112 monochrome and 17 colour, including frontispiece and by text figures. Account of the life and career of Peter Carl Faberge (1846-1920), Russian goldsmith and jeweller. He became closely connected to the Imperial Court, producing the famous bejewelled Easter eggs for the tsar's mother and the tsarina every year and gaining personal access tp the Hermitage collection. The author, a friend of Faberge's and later, manager of his London branch, gives an intimate and evocative insight into the man, his family and his work. Faberge closed the business in 1918 and moved to Switzerland. The original text was first published by Batsford in 1949 and in this edition by Hamlyn in 1966.
