8vo. 9 x 5.75 inches. viii + 160 pp. Bound in half green cloth, gilt over yellow boards, in pictorial unclipped dust wrapper, which has edge wear and slight spine damage; otherwise a very good clean copy. Illustrated by line drawings in text, including map and vignettes in preliminaries and by folding plan of Herzogin Cecilie in black and red at end. The story of single voyage before the mast in the four-masted barque, Herzogin Cecilie, from Australia to Hamburg in 1926. The author grew up in the Aland Islands and had a career in sailing ships which ended in the 1930s; he published his autobiography, Mother Sea in 1964.
