12mo. 5.75 x 3.75 inches. viii + 244 pp. Sermon has separate title page, but pagination and register are continuous. Bound in contemporary mottled calf; spine in compartments with gilt bands. Extremities worn including corners and head of spine, which has missing area; otherwise a very good copy. Signature cut from head of title. Several early signatures, 1828 and 1822 on second and third free endpapers and rear second free endpaper. 1829 gift inscription on second free endpaper and faint early manuscript text, including prayer,on verso of third free endpaper. Spiritual meditations bound with a sermon of 1681, by John Shower (1657-1715), a well known nonconformist minister. The second edition was published in 1689. Scarce early copy.
