Notes
Catalogue with essays to accompany the Schwitters Arp exhibition held at the Kunstmuseum Basel in 2004. Kurt Schwitters (1887-1948), artist, sculptor and graphic designer, best known for his collages, was born in Hanover. He fled from the Nazis to Norway in 1937 and to Britain in 1940. After a period of internment as an enemy alien in the Isle of Man, he settled in London, and later in the Lake District. Hans Arp (1886-1968) was a German-French sculptor and painter, born in Strasbourg, who was influenced by Dadaist and Surrealist groups.
