Notes

Stanley Lane-Poole (1854-1931) read history at Oxford and subsequently became a numismatist, specialising in oriental coinage. His extensive knowledge of the Islamic world, especially Muslim India and Egypt resulted in numerous publications on this subject, including several popular works.
