Notes
St John Colbran (1842-1922) took over the publishing business of his father, John, in 1860 but did not produce the first edition of his own guide until 1880. The title has an extensive historical section occupying the first 151 pages of the text. The Colbran company, which had been publishing guidebooks since 1839, was purchased by Goulden and Nye in 1887, although this Second Edition still remained in print in 1893.
