FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 8.5 x 6 inches. 87 pp. Bound in original navy cloth, with green spine title, in pictorial dust wrapper, which has light wear at head and tail of spine; otherwise a very good copy. Gift inscription from author on verso of half title. Illustrated by line drawings, including whole p age and section and chapter heading vignettes. Decorated by half title title, contents pages and tailpiece vignettes. Pictorial endpapers. Decorated by publisher's device on title page. Children's verse about a village entirely inhabited by animals, by Eileen Hunter (1909-79), better known as a prominent textile designer. The poetry is admirably complemented by the line drawings of Eileen's friend, Pauline Baynes (1922-2008), author, commercial artist and prolific book illustrator, including the works of C. S. Lewis and Tolkien.
