Item Description
FIRST UK EDITION. Oblong 4to. 8.75 x 11 inches. Unpaginated. [32] pp. Bound in pictorial laminated boards, in unclipped matching dust wrapper, which has small chip at head of spine; otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated throughout by the paintings of Thomas Hort, including frontispiece. Decorated by publisher's device on title page. Retold story of the Dutch boy who held back a leak in his local dyke to prevent a catastrophic flood, adapted from Hans Brinker, or The Silver Skates, By Mary Mapes Dodge, 1865. Text by Lenny Hort, US author, including children's literature. The atmospheric paintings of land- and seascapes by US artist and book illustrator, Thomas Locker (1937-2012), admirably recall the richness and depth of the Dutch master painters of the seventeenth century.
