Notes
James Northcote, R.A. (1746-1831) spent a five year apprenticeship with Sir Joshua Reynolds from 1771. His 'One Hundred Fables' was a late literary project, first published in 1828 and illustrated with his own woodcuts. Alfred Crowquill was a pseudonym used by Alfred Henry Forrester (1804-72), illustrator and writer.
