A survey of ancient and holy sites in Syria, Lebanon and Palestine, with frequent scriptural references. The Rev. Josias Leslie Porter (1823-89) was sent to Damascus as a missionary to the Jews in 1849. As a result of his travels, he gained a wide knowledge of the area, which resulted in several publications, including Murray's Handbook for Travellers in Syria and Palestine. This title appeared in a number of later editions.
