Item Description

A pair of hand-coloured lithographs. Image size 18 x 14 inches. Some slight damp marks and a little marginal foxing, but overall the image is in good condition. Held in honour of the Duke of Wellington's 10th year as Lord Warden of Dover, this extravagant banquet was held in a pavilion specially erected for the occasion. It held around 2250 who paid 1?guineas (?1.57pence). The ball was held 6 days later in the same location, at which around 940 guests were present, and was reported to continue into the early hours, with music played by the 27th and 90th regiments. William Burgess, the famous drawing master and artist of Dover was commissioned to make drawings, engravings and paintings recording the event.
