8vo. 9 x 6 inches. [viii] + 54 + [2] pp. Separate half titles for Other Poems Sentiments and Jests. Bound in original green cloth with pictorial printed title label on front board. Deckled edges. Spine and boards (partly) sunned. Foxing on title label and flyleaves, but otherwise clean interior and a very good copy. Signed by author and illustrator below limited edition statement. 1938 ownership signature on front pastedown and initials on first free endpaper. Illustrated by 4 whole page plates, including frontispiece and by vignettes including title page. The title poem relates a brief amorous encounter between Robin the Guardsman and Cupid's daughter, Chloe: 'He tastes love best, who therewith pleased departs.' By the poet, Jacob Villiers Peveril David (1906-85). Illustrated by the artist, John Austen (1886-1948). Published by the Cayme Press, founded in 1923 and printed at the Alcuin Press, which was based in Chipping Campden, 1928-36. Limited edition signed by author and illustrator.
