Two novels bound in one, by the US writer of historical romances, James Fenimore Cooper (1789-1851). Precaution (1820) was his first novel being his version of an upper class English romance, set in Northants around 1815. Heidenmauer (1832) is set in Germany during the upheavals of the Protestant Reformation of the sixteenth century and portrays the darker side of European society. The two titles were first published together in England around the mid-1850s.
