The subject of the first sermon is The Lordship of Christ considered in general, with its extent both to the Dead and Living and of the second, The Lordship of Christ considered, as it was acquired by his dying, rising again, and reviving. Both are taken from the text, Romans, XIV, 9. Samuel Wright (1683-1748) was born in Retford, Notts and received a nonconformist education at Attercliffe, near Sheffield. Moving to London in 1704, he accepted the charge of the Blackfriars Chapel in 1708, where his preaching style attracted large congregations. The chapel was, however, wrecked by a mob in 1710. Wright's publications included contributions on the defence of religious liberty, but his main output was his sermons, which appeared from 1707-42.
