Notes
Containing a wealth of information about the Royal Navy's ships, officers and men, the Official Admiralty Navy List was first published in 1814, prior to which David Steel had independently produced a regular Navy List. The Admiralty List very much followed the format of the later Steel's lists but was, perhaps, a little more legible. The Army List, by contrast, had been published since 1642 but here shares the format of the Navy List.
