Notes

A lavishly illustrated study of the smaller English house produced in typical Batsford style. It examines the evolution of the type and its plan with an emphasis on materials and the architectural details. Sir Albert Edward Richardson (1880-1964) was an architect who favoured styles developed from the classical and renaissance and was responsible for the design of numerous flats, offices, business premises, including shop fronts and later was concerned with the repair damaged buildings. He began his collaboration with Harry Batsford in the publication of books of architectural history in 1911 and held the chair of architecture at University College London, 1919-1946. Harold Donaldson Eberlein (1875-1965) was a US architectural author from Pennsylvania.
