An account of Calais as a port for handling military personnel in transit to and from Dover and Folkestone, 1944-46. The author served there as Staff Captain (Shipping) to the Port Commandment during this period. The greater part of the book is an account of the military service of the ships involved, the most significant of which were Southern Railway, Belgian Marine and Isle of Man ferries, and also of their subsequent civilian careers.
