Item Description

Uncoloured etching and copper-engraving, image size 5.5 x 7.5 inches. Framed and glazed in conservation materials in a suitable gilt frame, overall size 14.5 x 15 inches.

Notes

An interesting and detailed view from the beach looking West. Four fishermen haul a line attached to a lugger at sea. Some rudimentary piers in the distance show how hard fishing was from Folkestone before the harbour. The huts and sail lofts of the fishing village are behind the vessels drawn up on the shingle bank and in the distance is the great cliff fall which formed what is now the lower Sandgate Road. The only recognisable building is the Parish Church on the hilltop.
