FIRST EDITION. 4to. 10 x 7.5 inches. xvi + 208 pp. Bound in original salmon cloth, gilt, in unclipped pictorial dust wrapper, which has minor edge wear. The classic basic guide to local history sources using the Midland village of Chaddesley Corbett, Worcestershire as a case study. A very well illustrated survey of local history sources from Saxon charters through manorial records, inventories, tax records, enclosure awards and maps to turnpike documents and commercial directories. Each of the fifteen documents selected as examples is described, reproduced, transcribed, and translated where necessary, with a comprehensive survey of county catalogues and handlists for the rest of England and Wales. A very good copy of the first edition of a work that has stood the test of time
